Kim Taipale

Mr. Taipale has over twenty-five years of diverse experience relating to information and communication technology as a business development consultant, investment banker, private equity investor, lawyer, academic researcher, and policy analyst.

Mr. Taipale is a partner in Stilwell Holding, a private investment firm specializing in the technology, communications, and engineered products industries.

Mr. Taipale is also the founder and executive director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Science and Technology Policy, a private nonpartisan research and advisory organization focused on information, technology, and national security policy, and is a senior fellow at the World Policy Institute. He is also associated with the Markle Task Force on National Security in the Information Age; and serves on the Science and Engineering for National Security Advisory Board of The Heritage Foundation and the Information Policy Forum of LexisNexis.

Mr. Taipale was previously the director of new media development for Columbia lnnovation Enterprise at Columbia University where he was earlier the associate director and a senior fellow at the Institute for Learning Technologies.

Prior thereto, Mr. Taipale was a vice president, and a managing director of the London office, of Lazard Frères & Company, investment bankers. Earlier, he was the senior corporate development officer of The Pullman Company, a Fortune 500 technology, transportation, defense and aerospace manufacturing company, and, prior thereto, associated with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell.

Mr. Taipale received his B.A. from New York University and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law. He also received his M.A. and his M.Ed. in communications from Columbia University and his LL.M. from the Columbia Law School.

Mr. Taipale is a frequent invited speaker and is the author of many academic papers, articles, and book chapters on information, technology, and national security issues. [more]
